How to solve Meowdoku Level 20

This Level 20 board is 8Γ—8 with 8 color regions. The emerald region is the most constrained (4 cells), so the solution opens there β€” row 3, column 3 β€” and cascades down to the roomy violet region. One cat per row, column, and region, none touching: worked region by region it falls without a single guess. (Your in-app Level 20 may shuffle the layout, but the same logic cracks it.)

  1. 1

    emerald region β†’ row 3, column 3

Start with the emerald region: every other square in it already shares a row or column with a cat placed elsewhere, so its cat lands on row 3, column 3.

  2. 2

    green region β†’ row 7, column 7

The green region resolves next β€” only row 7, column 7 avoids sharing a row or column with an already-placed cat.

  3. 3

    indigo region β†’ row 8, column 4

In the indigo region, row 8, column 4 is the last square that doesn't clash with another cat's line, so place the cat there.

  4. 4

    pink region β†’ row 2, column 5

That forces the pink region: its remaining squares all touch a placed cat or share its row or column, leaving row 2, column 5.

  5. 5

    amber region β†’ row 1, column 1

Next comes the amber region β€” every square but row 1, column 1 is ruled out by an existing cat's row, column, or corner.

  6. 6

    orange region β†’ row 6, column 2

The orange region resolves next β€” only row 6, column 2 avoids sharing a row or column with an already-placed cat.

  7. 7

    blue region β†’ row 4, column 6

In the blue region, row 4, column 6 is the last square that doesn't clash with another cat's line, so place the cat there.

  8. 8

    violet region β†’ row 5, column 8

That forces the violet region: its remaining squares all touch a placed cat or share its row or column, leaving row 5, column 8.

Common Level 20 Mistakes to Avoid

Watch the closest pair

Nowhere on this board do two cats sit closer than in rows 2 and 3 (columns 5 and 3, a 2-column gap). Treat that pair as the level's checkpoint: if your grid ever puts them side by side or corner to corner, a placement earlier in the chain is off.

Save the violet region for the end

With 18 open cells, the violet region looks wide open early on. Don't place there by feel; once the other rows and columns are claimed it collapses to exactly one spot, no guess required.

Start from the corner

This board hands you a fixed anchor: the amber cat in the top-left corner (row 1, column 1). With only three neighboring squares to clear, it's the cheapest safe move you'll get β€” but copy the coordinates carefully, because an error here poisons every step after.

How to Solve Level 20 Faster

Open where it's tightest

The fastest opening is the emerald region at row 3, column 3 β€” the most constrained region, so its cat is locked before anything else moves.

Eliminate, then chain

After each cat, cross out its whole row, column, and color region plus the eight squares around it. On this board that immediately thins the green and indigo regions down to one option each β€” follow that chain instead of guessing.

Endgame: the violet region

The last cat lands at row 5, column 8 in the violet region. That's by design: the roomiest region absorbs whatever freedom the board has left, so it can't be pinned until everything else is settled. If you're reasoning hard about violet early, you're solving in the wrong order.
