How to solve Meowdoku Level 40

Level 40 runs on a 8×8 grid. Because the pink region has only 2 open squares, its cat is forced first (row 3, column 7); each placement then clears rows, columns, and neighbors until the emerald region is the last to settle. No guessing — every step below is a forced move. (The layout in your app may differ, but the technique is identical.)

  1. 1

    pink region → row 3, column 7

Start with the pink region: every other square in it already shares a row or column with a cat placed elsewhere, so its cat lands on row 3, column 7.

  2. 2

    blue region → row 2, column 3

The blue region resolves next — only row 2, column 3 avoids sharing a row or column with an already-placed cat.

  3. 3

    orange region → row 6, column 2

In the orange region, row 6, column 2 is the last square that doesn't clash with another cat's line, so place the cat there.

  4. 4

    indigo region → row 7, column 6

That forces the indigo region: its remaining squares all touch a placed cat or share its row or column, leaving row 7, column 6.

  5. 5

    green region → row 5, column 8

Next comes the green region — every square but row 5, column 8 is ruled out by an existing cat's row, column, or corner.

  6. 6

    violet region → row 8, column 4

The violet region resolves next — only row 8, column 4 avoids sharing a row or column with an already-placed cat.

  7. 7

    amber region → row 1, column 1

In the amber region, row 1, column 1 is the last square that doesn't clash with another cat's line, so place the cat there.

  8. 8

    emerald region → row 4, column 5

That forces the emerald region: its remaining squares all touch a placed cat or share its row or column, leaving row 4, column 5.

Common Level 40 Mistakes to Avoid

Watch the closest pair

The tightest spot on this board is rows 1 and 2: their cats sit just 2 columns apart (columns 1 and 3). This is exactly where the "no two cats touch, even diagonally" rule is easiest to break — keep one square of clearance on every side.

Leave the biggest region for last

With 15 open cells, the emerald region looks wide open early on. Don't place there by feel; once the other rows and columns are claimed it collapses to exactly one spot, no guess required.

Lock the corner first

The amber region's cat is pinned to the top-left corner (row 1, column 1). Corners have the fewest neighbors, so this is your safest opening anchor — misread it and the error spreads across the whole board.

How to Solve Level 40 Faster

Open where it's tightest

Start with the pink region (row 3, column 7). It has the fewest open squares, so it forces a cat with zero guesswork — the natural first move on this board.

Eliminate, then chain

After each cat, cross out its whole row, column, and color region plus the eight squares around it. On this board that immediately thins the blue and orange regions down to one option each — follow that chain instead of guessing.

Finish in the open region

The emerald region resolves last at row 4, column 5 — once the rest of the board is filled, only that square survives every row and column rule.
